Check out this AMAZING piece of art!!!
This rosary is a special creation from famed Italian rosary manufacturer, Ghirelli Rosaries to celebrate the “Year of Faith” as declared by, our now retired, Pope Benedict. With his Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011 (Porta Fidei) Pope Benedict XVI declared that a “Year of Faith” will begin on October 11, 2012 and conclude on November 24, 2013. October 11, 2012, the first day of the Year of Faith, is the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) and also the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.
The following summary of the design and symbolism is from Ghirelli Rosaries.
Evident among the Year of Faith Rosary collection is our great love for this beloved devotion. You will likely recognize the unique reverence in every detail of each piece. Our ultimate goal is to create a unity between the spiritual message and the Rosary itself. Through inspired design we strive to make each singular detail of the Year Of Faith Rosary a visible characteristic of the mystery which is being contemplated. The inspiration for this gorgeous piece came from John 20:29 “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed”.
The picture found on the Rosary’s Centerpiece, “The Incredulity of Saint Thomas” (1600–1601) by Caravaggio, sets the backdrop for the reproduction of the Holy Door of the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican. Its opening symbolizes the “Door of Faith” (Porta Fidei) which is always open and ready to usher us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. (ref. Acts 14:27 and Porta Fidei, the Apostolic Letter His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, for the introduction of the Year Of Faith.)
The front side of The Cross features the four Evangelists, who narrated the life and works of Jesus. On the back side, the four Evangelists’ emblems and the “Christ Pantocrator” appear in the center.
“We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.” Peter 2:16
“But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.” John 20:31
The Beads: The rosary beads reflect the Vatican colors, symbolizing Faith preserved through the Holy Father: “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church< and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18
The centerpiece, crucifix, wire and chain are all feature a silver plated finish. The beads are 7 mm faceted Bohemian glass, crystal color with Aurora Borealis effect, and 7 mm special faceted Bohemian glass Our Father beads, in Vatican yellow.
