Why Cancer Rosaries for Charity??

My cancer rosaries are dedicated to friends and family members who have passed from various forms of this scary disease. They are a small gesture to help those who are going through, or have recently been through, the trauma of Cancer. At a time when they need to heal, find strength, and process through their grief. To read about the symbolism behind my custom cancer rosaries click here for Breast Cancer and click here for All Other Cancers.

It is not uncommon for those with a severe illness to lose their support systems. Sometimes family and friends aren’t strong enough to cope with the challenges and sacrifices involved in being there for someone who is very sick. It’s just too difficult for them to watch someone they deeply care about suffer so much.

I’m hoping my rosaries will be a source of comfort and support for ALL cancer victims (including those who feel completely helpless while their loved one either struggles for their life or loses the battle). They are also a gentle reminder to those who have survived to thank God every day for the gift of life and continue to pray for a cure.

The important thing to remember is praying for cancer victims, their families and friends is not enough. We also need to pray for those involved in cancer research, like the drug companies, doctors, scientists, etc. Sometimes their focus strays and their priorities shift to financial gain instead of finding life saving and affordable treatment options.

50% of the profit from all of my Cancer rosaries goes to various charities for Cancer Research.cancer rosaries

Custom Rosary Colors: Crystal, Quartz & Diamonds

Everybody LOVES diamonds!!  Since most high quality diamonds are used for jewelry, rosary makers turn to some less expensive options that still add a “diamond look” and sparkle to any rosary.  Alternative options include clear quartz stone, clear glass and even Swarovski clear crystal.  The most flexible of the three is Czech glass because clear options are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and finishes (matte, AB, luster, etc) that other glass, crystal, and stone colors don’t always offer.

Some even believe that diamonds enhance things like competence, trust and love. They are also a symbol of strength due to their sturdy composition. Although diamonds are usually the first choice in engagement rings, they also represent both the 10th and 60th wedding anniversaries. Another interesting tidbit, many ancient religions saw diamonds as either hardened tears or tools of God (or of “the gods” depending on the religion). What a wonderful visual to keep in mind for those whose birthstone is the diamond!!

Best of all, Diamond (Crystal Clear and Quartz) are also the official birthstones for April!!!

An Interesting Mix…. Wood, Glass, & Stone

Have you ever had an idea pop into your head out of nowhere.  You know… the kind that just keeps “poking” at you even when you are trying to do other things?   This rosary was the result of one of those ideas.   It was something I just had to make… simple_smiley

Wood Jasper, Czech Glass, and Olivewood Rosary

This “one of a kind” stone, glass, & wood rosary featured a variety of beads.  The Aves (Hail Mary beads) were made using 6mm round wood jasper stone and matte finished clear Czech glass faceted beads.  Using the matte finish on the glass allowed the color of the stone to take center stage.  The Pater (Our Father) beads were made from 7.5mm round, carved Olivewood beads from Bethlehem.   The center was an Italian silver plate, traditional Miraculous medal.   And the crucifix was my Italian silver plate basic inlaid crucifix.    I did give the option to use one of the other crucifixes if someone prefered them.  Oh, and the wire and chain were 20 gauge silver plate.  The rosary ended up being about 20 inches in length.

I think this may be one of my new favorites.

Year of Faith Rosary ~ Ghirelli Rosaries

Check out this AMAZING piece of art!!!

This rosary is a special creation from famed Italian rosary manufacturer, Ghirelli Rosaries to Year of Faith Rosary Center & Crucifix Detailcelebrate the “Year of Faith” as declared by, our now retired, Pope Benedict.  With his Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011 (Porta Fidei) Pope Benedict XVI declared that a “Year of Faith” will begin on October 11, 2012 and conclude on November 24, 2013. October 11, 2012, the first day of the Year of Faith, is the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) and also the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.

The following summary of the design and symbolism is from Ghirelli Rosaries.

Evident among the Year of Faith Rosary collection is our great love for this beloved devotion. You will likely recognize the unique reverence in every detail of each piece. Our ultimate goal is to create a unity between the spiritual message and the Rosary itself. Through inspired design we strive to make each singular detail of the Year Of Faith Rosary a visible characteristic of the mystery which is being contemplated.  The inspiration for this gorgeous piece came from John 20:29 “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed”.

 The Centerpiece:

The picture found on the Rosary’s Centerpiece, “The Incredulity of Saint Thomas” (1600–1601) by Caravaggio, sets the backdrop for the reproduction of the Holy Door of the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican. Its opening symbolizes the “Door of Faith” (Porta Fidei) which is always open and ready to usher us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. (ref. Acts 14:27 and Porta Fidei, the Apostolic Letter His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, for the introduction of the Year Of Faith.)

Year of Faith Rosary Crucifix The Crucifix:

The front side of The Cross features the four Evangelists, who narrated the life and works of Jesus. On the back side, the four Evangelists’ emblems and the “Christ Pantocrator” appear in the center.

“We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming  of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty.” Peter 2:16

“But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.” John 20:31

The Beads: The rosary beads reflect the Vatican colors, symbolizing Faith preserved through the Holy Father: “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church< and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18

The centerpiece, crucifix, wire and chain are all feature a silver plated finish.  The beads are 7 mm faceted Bohemian glass, crystal color with Aurora Borealis effect, and 7 mm special faceted Bohemian glass Our Father beads, in Vatican yellow.
